PUBLIC STATEMENT
The exit from the crisis is possible only through EU mediation
Forum for Security and Democracy notes that the reaction of the police to last night's protests with it's displays of excessive use of force as well as gross human rights violations has collapsed the social and political space within which the ongoing crisis in Serbia could be resolved through social dialogue.
FSD is of the view that the crisis in Serbia has outgrown the confines within which it could have been politically managed and that the government of Serbia is only responsible for that outcome, which it now seeks to remedy by imposing tyranny through which it hopes to regain the control over society that they have lost.
FSD emphasizes that at this juncture the only way to resolve this crisis is through EU mediation, which needs to set the de-escalation of tensions in Serbia as it's top priority through dialogue with those government representatives who have not through their actions and political decisions escalate the ongoing crisis.
FSD stresses that the first order of business of such a future dialogue, which is only possible through EU mediation, must be the political and criminal accountability of those responsible for the scenes of state violence witnessed throughout Serbia over the last 48 hours.
