Public Statement

WE ARE WITNESSING A SORRY STATE OF PARLIAMENTARISM IN SERBIA

Forum for Security and Democracy (FSD=FBD) expresses its deepest concern with the incidents which have overwhelmed today's session of the National Assembly, which demonstrate the sorry state of parliamentarism in Serbia today.

FSD points out that such incident-prone behaviour which has been demonstrated today by the parliamentary opposition does not contribute in any meaningful way to the fight for the fulfillment of student demands and that it can only negatively impact the hard earned credibility which the student protest enjoys among Serbia's citizens. Their business today was not the business within their competences, but rather the business which they wrongly perceive to be in their interest.

FSD hopes that the students will promptly and unequivocally state whether the scenes that we have witnessed today in Serbia's parliament represent "institutions doing their duties" or a manifestation of political voluntarism and chaos which drove them to protest in search of a better and more decent society in which they wish to live in.

FSD, last but by no means least, underscores that the chief responsibility for the scenes we have seen today in the National Assembly falls directly on the President of the National Assembly Mrs. Ana Brnabic who didn't take any steps whatsoever to protect the dignity of the institution which she is presiding over and has instead completely placed it in the service of satisfying the political needs and interests of the ruling majority.
